Dan ordering tickets.jpg

Here’s Dan on the phone ordering our plane tickets after he had some trouble with Delta’s website.

Accumulating Money has a great post about why you should spend money on experiences rather than things here.

And, oh boy, will we be having experiences on our trip.  Getting a ff mile flight straight to Helsinki proved impossible with our time frame.  So–such a shame!–we’ll be spending three nights in London and the rest of the time in Helsinki.  Don’t you pity us?
In London, we know we are going to a tasting of chocolate that has been ranked the world’s best.  (After a trip to Lake Champlain Chocolates on our honeymoon, I told Dan we can start making finding the best chocolate on our trips!  I think I am more excited about this prospect than he is, though. . . .)  I think I want to see a play at the Globe.  Of course, there are a million touristy things to do.  I’ve never been to the UK and am quite excited, as they hold part of my ancestry.
In Espoo (a suburb of Helsinki), we’re staying at the Radisson.  I expect the hotel to be boring, but every room has a sea view!  Ooh la la.  To be near the water . . . it’s one of my biggest dreams.  In Helsinki, I hope to be able to wander and soak up the local culture some.  Many of my favorite memories from Japan are ones where I just tried to find my way around.  It seemed a bit overwhelming at times, but the memories are pleasant.
I am terribly excited about the trip.  Now that we’re done unpacking moving boxes, I can think more about where to go and what to do on our trip.

First, though, I have to get through my interview tomorrow, which means finally getting some decent sleep tonight.  The last few days have been very rough for me and Dan.  (Fortunately, he’s in VA taking a break now, and I’ll be joining him there on Thursday evening.)

Sounds fun! It would be cool seeing the fjords in Finland. (Of course, I would probably just like saying “fjord” over and over just as much… personally, I think it’s one of the coolest words there is. Fjord… fjord… fjord… :) )
